Fall in Love With Greenwood

Milder days, sweeter nights—Fall in Greenwood is the perfect time to fall in love again.

There’s nothing more romantic than a fall landscape, and Greenwood is filled with beauty at every turn. Take advantage of cooler days and cozier nights to explore Greenwood on a trip for two.

Fall means slightly cooler days and longer date nights, so get ready to explore to your heart’s content.

Explore Trails and Greenways

A great way to see Greenwood is by bike. You can wander the trails and greenways that show off both the area’s natural beauty and unique historic sites. Most Greenwood trails have an easy rating, and many are wheelchair accessible. All of them are near other points of interest, so you can step off the trail to explore.

The Greenwood County Rails to Trails project repurposes old railroad beds for recreation, like the Heritage Trail, which ends near the Uptown Market. Others take you alongside Lake Greenwood or over creek beds, past ponds, parks and fountains. You can even take a tour of the outdoor sculptures on display on the Lander campus.

Lake Greenwood State Park is a perfect autumn escape, with campsites, trails, recreational sites and easy access to all of the fun of Lake Greenwood.

Splash on the Lake

With our mild climate, fall fun on the lake is a must. Spend an afternoon or evening excursion on the beautiful, blue waters of Lake Greenwood. You can make it a fishing expedition in this championship angler’s paradise, or you can take a leisurely, romantic cruise.

Treat yourself to a tasty, lakeside meal at Break on the Lake. You may even catch some live music while you enjoy the food and a spectacular fall sunset.

Fun After Dark

Once the sun sets, there’s still plenty to do. Take a breather after your outdoor adventures and taste the house-made brews at various local spots. Live music and community events are frequently on the menu at our local breweries, new winery, and Uptown businesses like Flynn’s on Maxwell, where locals gather to relax.

Or steer into a retro experience with a visit to 25 Auto Drive In, one of the last drive-in theaters in South Carolina. Kick back while you enjoy a first-run movie and have dinner on site. “The 25,” as the locals call it, has been in operation since 1945 and is one of only three remaining drive-ins in the state. Great burgers and a family atmosphere mean it remains a popular spot for residents and tourists alike.

Greenwood has a robust foodie scene, with plenty of locally owned restaurants offering unique twists on the classics. From Southern to international cuisine, Greenwood really knows how to bring the flavor. The food truck culture is also alive and well in Greenwood, with exceptional desserts in addition to traditional meals, spectacular barbecue and more.

Uptown Charm, Shopping Local

Staying at the Inn on the Square means you have easy access to all of the shops and fun of Uptown. Visit the Uptown Market for locally grown produce and handmade items. Explore the gardens and Monarch way stations of Uptown, and take in the exhibits at the Greenwood Museum. Peruse the exhibits at the Arts Center, maybe even take a class, or shop for the perfect piece to take home. If theater is your thing, be sure to catch a play or concert at the Greenwood Community Theatre.

You won’t want to miss Uptown favorite Main & Maxwell, where you can browse the work of more than 60 area artists and fine craftspeople. You’ll find everything from modern to traditional, from whimsical to elegant in the shops of Uptown. Find tasteful gifts at Fig or trendy clothing and accessories at Sugar.

Whether you’re shopping the boutiques and galleries of Uptown or the antiques and collectibles of stores throughout the county, you’ll find treasures galore to take home.
