From creative contests to performances and parades, Ambassador Rachel Strayer always finds something to enjoy and many reasons to feel thankful to be part of the Greenwood community.
Rachel Strayer, Loan Partner for Patrick Gardner with Supreme Lending, has become immersed in Greenwood life since moving here in 2020. She is currently a board member for Uptown Greenwood and an integral part of other local organizations.
She moved to Greenwood to escape the icy winters of the Northeast, “trading snow shovels for sunshine and a more relaxed way of life.”
“The start of our relocation was a little bumpy thanks to COVID and the lockdown,” she says, “but when the world started turning again, Greenwood quickly became everything we hoped for and more. It’s a place that manages to feel both peaceful and full of life, where creativity and community spirit seem to thrive in every corner. What began as a search for warmer weather turned into a true sense of belonging, and I’m so grateful to now call Greenwood home.”
“If I were showing a friend around Greenwood for the very first time, I would take them straight to Uptown,” Rachel says. “It’s the perfect introduction to everything that makes our community special like friendly people, local art, good food, and a genuine sense of pride in place.
“We would start with coffee at Aromas Uptown, wander through Main & Maxwell to admire local creativity, and visit a few boutiques before stopping by The Arts Center.”
She would also show off Greenwood’s vibrant local music scene, from patio performances at Inn on the Square and Uptown Market concerts to intimate shows at Flynn’s on Maxwell and other live events.
“Greenwood has an incredible collection of tucked-away parks and greenspaces that offer a quiet retreat from busy days.” Rachel adds. “They’re perfect spots to unwind with a picnic, a good book, or just some sunshine and stillness. You might even come across a morning tai chi class or a warm-weather movie under the stars. Each of these green corners adds its own bit of charm to life here, reminding us how easy it is to pause, breathe, and appreciate the beauty all around.”
Every season brings its own beauty—and fun—to Greenwood. From the spectacular topiaries and displays of June’s South Carolina Festival of Flowers to the month of events planned for December’s Cheer Trail.
“Fall in Greenwood…is full of color and community spirit. The season brings a burst of energy and creativity to Uptown.” Rachel says. Local groups and businesses fill the streets with clever displays during the annual Scarecrow Contest. A new annual highlight, the 4 the Love Of Festival, celebrates art, music, food, and the many ways the community comes together to share what makes Greenwood special.
As the season moves along, the Uptown Holiday Open House ushers in the holidays with festive lights, live music, and small-town charm, followed by a full calendar of Christmas activities that fill the weeks with warmth and joy during the Cheer Trail.
